I have a pair of 1310 bridges connecting to each other on a point-to-point link with 21dbm dish antennaes (AIR-ANT3338).

I get the following output when I do a linktest:

POOR (35 % retries) Time Strength Quality % Retries

msec % In dBm % Out dBm In Out In Out

Sent : 100, Avg 281 93 - 48 49 - 90 100 100 Tot: 0 70

Lost to Tgt: 0, Max 524 98 - 47 53 - 84 100 100 Max: 0 4

Lost to Src: 0, Min 261 86 - 52 47 - 96 100 100

Rates (Src/Tgt) 18Mb 11/11 24Mb 68/67 36Mb 19/19 48Mb 2/2 54Mb 0/1

Linktest Done

Can anyone tell me how to interpret the output? I am getting very poor response when running pings on the link.

IT looks like you have a bad RF link. (Poor =;-)

check the rf situation, the line of sight of the antennas, maybe change the channel.

it also helps if you sent more infos about the installation (config, distance, ...)

regards Bernhard

Hi Bernhard,

The distance is 1.2 kilometers. The hardware comprises Cisco 1310 bridges with 21Db dish antennaes.

The config on side a is:

interface Dot11Radio0

no ip address

no ip route-cache

!

ssid pdhgsr

!

short-slot-time

cca 75

concatenation

distance 2

speed basic-1.0 basic-2.0 basic-5.5 6.0 9.0 basic-11.0 12.0 18.0 24.0 36.0 48.0

54.0

power local cck 20

power local ofdm 20

station-role root

antenna receive right

antenna transmit right

antenna gain 21

infrastructure-client

bridge-group 1

bridge-group 1 spanning-disabled

The config on side b is:

interface Dot11Radio0

no ip address

no ip route-cache

ssid pdhgsr

I think at least at one side (eg b) the station role needs to be non root.

you can also try on the root bridge :

dot11 dot11Radio 0 carrier busy

regards Bernhard

Thanks for the assistance so far.

The one station is non-root.

Here is the output from the carrier busy tests:

Frequency Carrier Busy %

--------- --------------

2412 75

2417 97

2422 100

2427 100

2432 100

2437 100

2442 47

2447 90

2452 100

2457 100

2462 100

2467 92

2472 57

Frequency Carrier Busy %

--------- --------------

2412 99

2417 100

2422 100

2427 100

2432 100

2437 100

2442 66

2447 94

2452 100

2457 99

2462 99

2467 96

2472 57

If I read the above it seems as if all the channels are busy. Is my assumption correct and if so what are my alternatives as we are not allowed to make use of 5Ghz in South Africa at this point in time.

Not sure about the polarization of the AIR-ANT3338, but

if it's linear you could try changing the polarization.

Rotate the antennae 90 degrees.

That really doesnt look very good. you could try to rotate the antennas but is think it wouldnt help really here. sorry

Hi guys,

You say you have one station as non-root but your configs show the bridges both at root, are you sure the configs. are correct?

How did you line the antennas up, by eyeballing it or some other way? The antennas you're using need correct alignment to function efficiently.

Is the 1.2km as the crow flies or as the car drives? If it's 1.2km straight I would suggest making the distance on the config as 1 not 2. Are you using miles or km? If the bridge is set for miles then 2 miles = approx. 3.23kms, that's a bit more than 1.2kms and may be affecting ping times.

Just my 2 cents.

Merry Christmas!

Hi,

Yes, there was a typo in the message. The one bridge is set up as root and the other as non-root. We lined up the antennaes with the eye.

The distance is 1.2Km as the crow flies.

Thanks for your input.

Regards

Dean
