I was curious to see if anyone has ever heard of this error message, TAP Terminate. It is an ASCII text message that is being generated on several of our RF Scanning Guns. The guns are connected to the network via RF AP using IEEE802.11 technology.

Sincerely,

Jeff

The TAP Terminated error message is generated by the Connect TE client running on the terminal. It usually means the terminal lost communication with the telnet host. This can occur for several reasons including coverage problems, interference or issues with the wired infrastructure.

I can provide more insight with answers to the following questions:

1. What handheld terminals are you using?

1a. what client adapter is in the terminal?

1b. what are the firmware and driver versions on the client adapter?

2. What access point?

2a. what firmware version on the AP?

3. How far are you from the nearest access point?

4. Was a formal site survey conducted?

5. Are you using LEAP?

6. Are you using MAC authentication?

Feel free to email me directly if it makes it easier.

Kerry
