Upgrading WLC from 6.0.199.4 to 7.6 code for 3700 support

Hello All,

Am planning on upgrading the WLC to the latest version. Problem is that our terminal server went kaput on us last week so i do not have console access to the WLC. The release notes show that both the FUS and the image can be upgraded via the web. However, my main concern is with the FUS as I have seen a thread from 2012 saying that FUS image needs to be upgraded via console only. I have upgraded once before but i had concole access to the WLC seating right next to me.

So qns:

1) Can FUS be upgraded via web ...please answer only if you have tested this and done it before. I remember that the process took forever last time and i was all panicky.

2) Do I need to upgrade FUS to 1.7 first then later 1.9 or can I go directly to 1.9

3) Scott mentioned in a different scott that image will need to be upgraded step by step ...first to 7.0 then to 7.4 so i guess i am also required to go to 7.0 then 7.6..correct?

4) Is this action plan correct:

a) Upgrade image to 7.0

b) Upgrade image to 7.5 - want this to be backup image

c) Upgrade image to 7.6

     7.6 will be primary

     7.5 will be backup

d) Upgrade FUS to 1.7

e) Upgrade FUS to 1.9

Hi,

you can not updare ditectly to 7.6, first upgarde to 7.0 and then to 7.6.

1. CLI is best way to do it.

2.You can directly upgarde to 1.9 FUS.

3. yes Scott is always right. LOL

4.  remove the d option otherwise , its ok.

FUS upgrade via GUI:

Via CLI:

Have you tried upgrading FUS via web?

Last week, I upgraded four WiSM-2 AP SSO pairs from FUS 1.7.0 to 1.9.0 using GUI.

The same method to upgrade the firmware is the same "reaction" you'll get, i.  e.  you GUI into the active use and use TFTP (didn't try FTP) to transfer the FUS code across.  The active unit will push the FUS down to the hot standby unit.  It sort of give you an indication where the process is and at the end, it gives you the link to reboot (or save and reboot) the WLC.

It will take about 25 minutes (I timed it) to boot up both pairs.
