In Cisco download page we can find AP IOS images (w7) and LAP images (w8) so we assume there is a possibility to downgrade one 1520 in LAP mode to Autonomous with the traditional procedure (renaming IOS to default).
But I have seen a comment in a post in this forum about 1520 been only Mesh AP so no autonomous mode is possible, is this true? if so, why there are w7 and w8 images available for this model?
Regards.

Normally the 1520 APs are outdoor MESH that works only in Brdige mode with a controller.
The image of w7 is made for special purposes (site survey for example where no WLC is acting).
However, the w7 image is fully functional and can be used normally on the AP (as per one cisco guy on this link:https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2206828 ) but as mentioned it will be outdoor AP only. not a MESH one
I could not find any valid Cisco Doc talks about the w7 image support and usage though on the outdoor MESH APs.

So, can we convert it from lightweight to autonomous ????

No, i don't think that it is possible. No autonomous mode for 1520 AP.

We need k9w7 not k9w8 to do so, hence it is not possible
