What ports do LWAPP AP's use to talk to the controllers.

Upon boot what ports and protocols are used for the

LWAPP AP to find the Controller.

What we are trying to do is, If we have an AP on a

vendor site in which we have a Site to Site VPN connection.

Can we get the AP connected and have a device on the vendors site connect to our network?

If you are running version 5.1 or earlier the packets are encapsulated in LWAPP so the ports are UDP 12222 or 12223.

If you are running version 5.2 or later the protocol changed to CAPWAP which uses UDP ports. 5246 and 5247.

For mobility the controllers use UDP 16666 to talk to eachother and IP Protocol 97 to tunnel the client's traffic if tunneling is needed.

Will this work with NAT?

It depends on which way you are NATing.  When the controller sends a discovery response to the AP it includes the IP address of the ap-manager interface.  The AP will send its join request to this address so the AP will need to be able to reach this address.  So basically you can NAT the AP but not the controller.
