Hi Leo/Sandeep,

We have decided not to go for WLC but only Wireless Access Points.

My office is 70 Meters X 70 Meters and I had a look at this Access Point plus 3700

http://www.cisco.com/cisco/web/UK/solutions/small_business/products/wireless/500_series_wireless_access_points/index.html

I was thinking more future proof as well as better mid range.

Hi Mohammed,

As we tolad you earlier.

WLC based solution is best because U can manage AP, you do not need to configure anything on AP.

WLC will manage RF, power level, DCA...all automatically.

Better to go for:

1. Site survey with the help of any experts.

2. Then plan how many APs u need.

Go for 2504 WLC.

Hi Sandeep,
It has come down to IT budget and I have measured the floor distance as I mentioned in my previous post. I would like to avoid extra cost for WLC and get only AP.
It would suit our budget to just get AP for now if we need to go over two access point we may take a look at WLC.
Can you pls advise which are better for my requirement?

HI Mohammed,

First of all, the below link shows the AP comparison:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/wireless/ps5678/ps10981/at_a_glance_c45-636090.pdf

Example 1042 AP: It  also Depends.  What are the users going to be doing?  If they are just doing some web and email, you could expect ~5,000 sqft of coverage and probably 20-30 users to work ok.   If they are doing voice, video, or high bandwidth applications, you'll get less.

Thats the reason we are telling you to do a proper site survey with all your requirments.

Then only you can find the out: which AP u need.

HI Mohammed,

As per my last post.

Its all up to ur requirements, what u want to access via wireless and how many AP u need, 2600 series AP are avilabale in both version(CAPWAP and Standalone).

Hi,
I have been thinking to purchase 2 cisco 3602i AP standalone. Would it be possible to configure these 2 APs so users can move different floors seamlessly without any any interruption.

HI Mohaammed,

yes, this is totally possible. if you are using a PSK, then all you need to do is configure the AP exactly the same way, with the exception of the IP address on the BVI interface. So long as the ssid and encryption are the same, and there is overlap between the cells the client should roam between the AP.

or

if you are using 802.1x, then you would want to configure WDS for the key caching.

Hi Mohammed,

Be aware:

In the 15.2(2)JA release, Cisco supports running autonomous IOS (aIOS)  only in "site survey" mode on the 3500, 3600 and 1550 Series Access  Points.

Does it mean I can have guest wifi on the same ap. All our internal employees can use 802.1x Active directory or Psk?

Sent from Cisco Technical Support iPhone App

Yes you can have two SSIDs, one on management vlan (vlan x) and one in guest vlan (vlan y).

Thats depends on you, how youw ant to authenticate internal iusers and guests.

Regards

Do I need to create VLAN for guest on our Switches to provide guest Wi-Fi? Can 2600 series access point provide Guest DHCP addresses without VLAN on the production switches?

Hi guys,

I have a question again :). I have no layer 3 switch only Asa5505. What would be the best idea to enable Guest Wi-Fi on 2602i access point and keep it separate from Employee subnet?

Is there any solution or is 2602i can deal guest dhcp and route traffic on the internet without the need of layer3.
