Wireless bandwidth limit and billing system

Hello ,

We want to rent the internet access service to the houses which are provided to employees. That's why we need bandwidth limit and billing system solution. There will be also a guest users in the network. Could you give me an idea , is it possible to do that with Cisco wireless LAN controller devices , if it is possible how can it be done ?

Kind Regards...

Re: Wireless bandwidth limit and billing system

The WLC has no capabilities to either connect to a billing system or limit bandwidth to users depending on the users role. NAC Guest Server can do that for you, but it is pretty pricey. There are other 3rd party utilities out there that does HotSpot billing and bandwidth throttling. Wireless traffic from the WLC will flow into these server's or PC's depending on what you load the software on.

Just Google Hotspot or wireless billing:

Are there any Cisco wireless case studies like this scenario ? I think that , it has to be.

Re: Wireless bandwidth limit and billing system

This is using QoS policyies per vlan. If that is what you want, you can do it that way. It willnot do you billing though. If you want to look at case studies, then Cisco has done one with their Cisco NAC Guest Server. Other than that, there are again 3rd party software that allows you to use a billing system and limit user bandwidth.

Re: Wireless bandwidth limit and billing system

Hello ,

But the document says "Per-user bandwidth policies" ;

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/solutions/collateral/ns340/ns394/ns348/ns787/data_sheet_c78-456124.html

Per-user bandwidth policies

Granular bandwidth limiting on guest traffic allows organizations to limit bandwidth policies by user or group, providing the ability to allocate resources by specific job function or throughput requirements. Overall network performance is thereby enhanced and can be directed towards critical needs of the business.

Re: Wireless bandwidth limit and billing system

That is not per user.... it is group which falls into a specific vlan. You can do dynamic vlan assignments to put users on a specific vlan and then use QoS to give that vlan a specific bandwidth allocation. The 3rd party software can do per user bandwidth... also how will you do billing though?

Re: Wireless bandwidth limit and billing system

If I find it again I will post it. Don't remember though how I ran into it. NAC Guest Server will cost you though.... it's like a glorified radius box:)
