WLAN and fast movement

Hello!

Is it possible to establish and maintain a WLAN connection when moving fast?

For example:

Nearing an access point with a car (approx. 60 KPH), establish the connection, transmit data and dropping the connection when out of reach.

Thanks for any information.

Regards,

Robert Falk

In theory, it'd work fine, assuming you're connected long enough to associate (and authenticate, if there's security), and transmit/receive all the data.

Depending on the AP coverage, you might not be connected for long enough. If you're moving only within the coverage area of a single AP/bridge (such as within a warehouse or open area), then there shouldn't be a problem.

Try it and see :)

It may sound counter-intuitive, but sometimes you want more distance.

If you can put the AP a few hundred feet (D) from the vehicle's path and use an antenna with, say a 90 degree azimuth, then the car will be in the cell for D*SQRT(2) feet, but always at about the same distance from the AP - reducing the problems that a fast approach/departure might cause.

Need more time? Move further away.
