Wlan Client IP address's in subnet different than AP subnet via DHCP

Hi all,

We are trying to set up a WLAN asigning the client IP addresses via DHCP. The subnet of the WLAN users will be different that the one of the AP. The DHCP server is a 7200 router. Our problem is the users get an IP address on the subnet of the AP but not in the subnet we would like to.

could anyone help in how we need to configure either the AP or the DHCP server (7200 router) in order to have the clients assigned with an IP address in a different subnet than the one on the AP?

The AP is not able to understand separate VLANs, so to put the client in a differenet subnet you will have to tunnel a VPN connection.

Can I ask why you would want to do such a thing?

We would like to assign a different subnet for the clients if possible, one vlan for the clients and another for the AP's.

If we assign the IP's manually the system works but we would like to do it via DHCP.

Use a VPN. You can assign any IP address you want to the client's VPN tunnel connection.
