WLC 5500 - LWAP Vlan Tagging

Hello Experts,

A little background is that we are running dual WLC 5500 in our data center. In the field we are running LWAPs running FlexConnect mode doing local switching of traffic with central authentication using RADIUS.

Currenlty we aren't doing any VLAN tagging for the wireless traffic. The AP gets plugged into an access port and the wireless traffic is also locally switched on this VLAN.

What we would like to do is take advantage of some dynamic VLAN assignments from the RADIUS server. From what I have gathered I need to turn on "Allow AAA Override" for the WLAN configuration.

However I am a little unsure where I need to configure the VLAN tagging or support for the LWAP. It doesn't seem that I would need to configure the VLAN globally in the WLC as long as the LWAP and the switch are trunking the VLANs.

Any information you can provide will be helpful.

Well you would need to trunk the AP ports. Here is a guide that should help you.

I honestly don't see anything in the document as far as trunking the AP interface. I see about adding the trunks to the switchport but not the AP itself.

Hi Elton,

You should have 7.2.x onwards WLC code to do this, following video going through steps involved in this process

The above should clarify your query. If you still have further queries let us know
