ASA5510 Creating a new Site to Site VPN tunnel for a client - keeping the same Local and Remote IPs
We are using an ASA5510 and I've been tasked with creating a new Site to Site VPN tunnel for an existing client - keeping the same Local and Remote IP addresses as their current tunnel .
The only thing changing is the Peer IP and PreShared key . When I try to create the new tunnel it's giving me a warning that the new tunnel overlaps with the existing tunnel and that this might cause the traffic to be miss-routed . What's the best way to create this new tunnel so that we can test it before putting it into production ?
Copy and paste the current related VPN configuration into a text editor. Update the old information. Remove the old config from the ASA and then paste back the new config. If you keep the original copies in the text editor you should be able to change back easily.
Because the subnets overlap you can't have them both active at the same time.
This is actually a pretty cool feature, i didn't even know it existed until I was looking for a solution to advertise a subnet (prefix in BGP talk), only if a certain condition existed. This is exactly what conditional advertisements does
