Hi, i m having 7206-VXR with BRI S/T ports and i m terminating one BRI line in that. But the Layer 1 status shows Deactivated. But it becomes Active when we call the number from phone line.
When we tested the same line to ISDN Telephone thro. the same NT, we are able to make calls in the same line.
But when we connected to router it shows Layer1 Deactivated and becomes ACTIVE when we call from our phone line.
show isdn status
Global ISDN Switchtype = primary-net5
ISDN BRI3/0 interface
dsl 16, interface ISDN Switchtype = basic-net3
Layer 1 Status:
DEACTIVATED
Layer 2 Status:
TEI = 65, Ces = 1, SAPI = 0, State = TEI_ASSIGNED
Layer 3 Status:
0 Active Layer 3 Call(s)
Activated dsl 16 CCBs = 0
The Free Channel Mask: 0x80000003
show runinterface BRI3/0
description BRI NO. xxxxxxx
no ip address
no ip directed-broadcast
isdn switch-type basic-net3
thx in Advance!

Hi
have you tried connecting the same onto other port ?
also have u tried manually dialing from the router cli ??
do revert whether you have configured this bri as a backup for any other link if yes do check out for some backup delay or other backup related commands under that interface.
also check out for some floating static routes with higher admin distance than the primary one which will also supresst he bri in making calls out..
if possible post out the whole config here...

Prem,

Yes, we tried connecting to other ports, but the status is same.
also have u tried manually dialing from the router cli ??
i haven't tried. i m just looking the status to be ACTIVE.
do revert whether you have configured this bri as a backup for any other link if yes do check out for some backup delay or other backup related commands under that interface.
Yes it is for backup. As a primary line, we have E1.(2MB).
also check out for some floating static routes with higher admin distance than the primary one which will also supresst he bri in making calls out..
There is no floating static as such. Even if it is there, the status should show Active in the normal cirucumstances. Becz with the same config in other locations, it seems to be ACTIVE with layer two Multi-framed.
if possible post out the whole config here...
sorry!
As i pasted part of the interface config, only switch-type is configured in all our boxes.

Hello,
there is another post in this forum from somebody who has the same problem, this is what I found:
I found the following bug, which might apply to you:
Symptoms: An outgoing Basic Rate Interface (BRI) call fails to activate the
layer 1.
Not sure which IOS version you are running, but the fixed versions are:
12.4(3.6), 12.4(3.6)T, 12.3(11)T08, 12.3(16.7), 12.4(03a)
Can you try and load any of these IOS releases ?

GP

Thx for your reply,
This is Version 12.0(31)S. It should work in that version becz in all of our other places it is working with same IOS and same Interface config.

Perhaps is obvious, but
Have you tried to exchange one router with one of the others ( similar as you've said ) and see what it happens ???

Hello,
the ´bearercap´ messag ein your debug output could mean that somehow the router is not recognizing the type of connection made. It might be worth looking at the configurations from both sides, can you post those, if possible ?

GP
