Cellphone modem and AUX Port

Hi,

I want to connect a cellphone with an internal modem to the aux port of my router. Deriving from

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk801/tk36/technologies_tech_note09186a0080094bbc.shtml

this should generally be possible.

However, modem autoconfigure discovery does not detect any device on the aux port, even though the modem of the cellphone could be reached via a PC com-port before. I have also tried to set the aux port manually, with the same result. I have also used a different device's aux port for comparison, with no result.

The cellphone data cable uses a standard 9-pin female connector - to connect it to the 9-pin female connector of the console cable on the aux port, I use a common gender changer.

All the cisco AUX port cables that I've seen are DB25. You might find one on the web, otherwise you have to order a custom-made one or make one yourself.

If you are using your router's console cable then that is the problem. Check this for the differences in signals and pinouts:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps332/products_tech_note09186a0080094ce6.shtml#topic16

Thank you. But that section is about DB-25 ports, while my router (which is a 2600) has a RJ45 aux port.

According to the document you point at, section 15, the pinouts for aux and console ports are identical.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps332/products_tech_note09186a0080094ce6.shtml#topic15

Thus, the console cable should be usable for this setup? Or am I misreading anything here?

This document will make things cleare:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps214/products_tech_note09186a00801f5d85.shtml

Please compare the Console<--->DB25 to AUX<--->DB25. You'll see that signals go to different pins.

I see. So what I need is a special cable that connects the Aux Port in a different way than a Console cable. Thanks so far.

Is there a pre-manufactured cable from Cisco (or someone else) for the purpose of connecting modems that use a DB-9 connector?
