Hello All,
We are using LRE switches and having several issues with rooms not able to get Internet access although when all lights are on the CPE boxes which are installed in rooms. We always had to reboot the switch twice to get rooms working. Re-booting switches is becoming a standard at our company.
We are doing the following process let me know if anything need to add:-
Commands for LRE Switches:
1. TO CHECK THE INTERFACE STATUS
testmlrem#sh int status
Port Name Status Vlan Duplex Speed Type
Lo0/15 **** 1215 **** notconnect 2 half 100 LRE --------- Need to verify the physical connectivity
testmlrem#
2. TO CHECK IF CPE IS CERTIFIED OR NOT
testmlrem#sh controllers lre cpe info
Port CPE Model Status Family
------ ------------ --------------- ------
Lo0/15 NA NA NA --------- Switch does not see the CPE
test#
3. TO CHECK THE PROFILE
test#sh controllers lre status profile
Port Link Uptime Profile DSRate USRate Fail
------ ---- -------- ------------------- ------ ------ ----
Lo0/15 DOWN 2d07h LRE-5 0.000 0.000 0 --------- LRE profile is 5 and link is down. We need to change the profile and bounce the port.
testmlrem#
4. TO VERIFY THE MAC ADDRESS
testm#sh mac-address-table dynamic
Mac Address Table
------------------------------------------
Vlan Mac Address Type Ports
---- ----------- ---- -----
2 000b.607c.d998 DYNAMIC Lo0/24
<<SNIPPED>>
5. TO CHANGE THE PROFILE AND BOUNCE THE CPE / PORT
test(config)#int lo 0/15
test(config-if)#profile LRE-2
test(config-if)#cpe shut
test(config-if)#no cpe shut
test(config-if)#shut
test(config-if)#no shut
6. TO CHECK THE PROFILES THAT ARE AVALIABLE ON THE SWITCH
test#show controllers lre profile names
Profile Name Type Downstream Upstream
Rate(Mbps) Rate(Mbps)
------------ ----------------- ---------- ----------
LRE-15 System-Configured 16.667 18.750
What can we do to resolve these issues? Please advice
Your valuable suggestion will be highly appreciated.

It looks as if you are having one main issue: getting connectivity.
Now, I know that LRE is capable of using plain old telephony cabling but it is still essential that the wiring uses the correct rx and tx pairs. This might be a problem with your site.
Improper grounding may also cause the kind of trouble you describe. Hence you should double-check the proper electrical grounding as described in the installation manuals.

Hello Leo,
When we are reloading the LRE switch port will come up.
We are using right pair cabling?
Please advice some valuable commands to get rid of this problem on LRE

No, I would rather say this is raising suspicion about the quality or the installation of the cabling.
A link can be setup under zero-traffic condition (i.e.resetting) but when utilized, it appearently disconnects.
This is what can be expected when you are not using cable pairs.

Hello Leo,
We have designed this network very well. So design is out of question.
I just want to know some commands which we are missing in our process, have a look in my 2nd reply.
One of my ex-colleague used some commands to troubleshoot same kind of problem which they have fixed for different building.
For same commands I am trying to look for it as we have lost that document.?
I hope now it?s clear for you.
Please help me out to troubleshoot this LRE switch reload problem?

Khan

OK then. I was a bit annoyed by your reply that "a design issue is out of the question".
I never said it was a design issue. If the cabling is not properly connected, I would not call that design- but rather an installation issue.
What you mention as troubleshooting is more or less adequate. If you do not have an open mind to start with, you will never be able to find the problem.
You should probably start with a particular room that has much problems. This will offer the best opportunity for troubleshooting and if you are able to solve the issue there, you are likely to succeed for the rest as well.
In my opinion you should check the cabling as all symptoms are pointing in that direction.

Hello Leo,
We have done the following to resolve LRE issue, In-fact it has been resolved some of our LRE ports problem which were down?
When troubleshooting we did clear controllers Ethernet-controller longreachethernet lo0/12 for those ports which were not coming up after doing the executing the following commands ports were coming up without reloading the switch. thats Kool!!!
Shut down the port then reload the CPE box.
Clear controllers Ethernet-controller longReachEthernet
Clear controllers lre.
Clear lre rate selection
Debug lre state longReachEthernet (to see activity for that specific port
Now, I have another issue some of the ports are flapping in every 3 hrs? Please advice.
If you have any suggestion for similar kind of problem.. Please let me know
Thanks in advance.

Khan
