Do you have a default route and static route in the VPN? If they're not there, then add them to the VPN device.

default -> 65.x.x.x
172.16.1.0/255.255.255.0 -> ethernet 1 private
along with others for example
10.10.0.0/255.255.0.0 -> ethernet 1 private

There's a "router address" field that should point to your internal device that does the routing (ie: l3 switch). Is that field empty? If it's blank, then try filling in the gateway ip address.
Take a look at the System Status under Monitoring, is Memory Status "green" or "red". If it's red, you'll need to reboot the vpn box.
