We are currently experiencing a strange issue with a Cisco VPN client and Windows 2000. It seems as though when the user is on the internal LAN and NOT using the VPN connection, the network connections become unreliable. When the user is outside the LAN and utilizing the VPN connection, it works great. For example, when on the LAN, email is not automatically sent via Outlook unless the user phyically clicks on the outbox. With the VPN client uninstalled all things are just fine. Does anyone have any suggestions?

First of all, you should try to switch off the personal firewall that comes with the VPN client.

Another suggestion is to reset your MTU when your on the LAN with the vpn client installed. Try to change the MTU back to the normal 1500 bytes using the MTU utility that gets installed with the client.
If your pc now works with out problems try setting the mtu to a few other settings other than the MTU that the vpn clients sets when it is installed.
