Wic 1B S/T Troubleshooting

Hi,

i've these devices installed on site:

1 Router Cisco 1760

1 WIC-1B-S/T, connected to Nt1 PLUS ( 2 B Channel, two analogic lines for analogic phones )

The problem is, having configured my 1760 as a data backup device:

I correctly receive and process data calls from remote router, L1, L2 and L3 are on and working.

But i am not able to send calls to the remote router and the debug is the following:

I've tried to reconfigure all ( or so ) of ISDN, but no success.

Help Please, many thanks

PS A 1603, which has integrated ISDN, works perfectly till yesterday, but now i'm trying to substitute it with the above 1760

Re: Wic 1B S/T Troubleshooting

Buon giorno,

I found the following bug, which might apply to you:

Symptoms: An outgoing Basic Rate Interface (BRI) call fails to activate the

layer 1.

12.4(3) seems to be affected, the fixed versions are:

12.4(3.6), 12.4(3.6)T, 12.3(11)T08, 12.3(16.7), 12.4(03a)

Can you try and load any of these IOS releases ?

Regards,

GP

Re: Wic 1B S/T Troubleshooting

Hello,

can you post the configuration of your 1760 ? A couple of things you might want to check are your SPIDs (if you use them), or, if you use multilink, that the command ´ppp multilink´ exists both under the physical BRI, as well as under the dialer interface...

Re: Wic 1B S/T Troubleshooting

Hello Francesco,

I assume that ´username xxx password ppppp´ refer to the router defined with ´dialer remote-name´?

Your config looks ok, except for the ´dialer idle-timeout´ on the BRI0/0 interface. Setting the idle-timeout to 0 keeps the link up indefinitely, unless the other side disconnects the connection. You might want to try and renove that command alltogether (which will cause the dialer interface to use a default idle-timeout of 120 seconds)...

Re: Wic 1B S/T Troubleshooting

Hello,

you are right, sure. The idle-timeout was set to 0 because, as i've said the router receive the call from the other end and it works perfectly, so i can manually use it as a backup. The question is different: this router ( and others in similar installations ) doesn't make a call. It only works if i put an analog phone in one of the two analog plugs ( my ISDN is a NT1 PLUS, two digital b-channel, two analogic lines for analogic phones ), lift the receiver, i can see on debug TEI negotation and then it works and pings the remote router. The previous 1603 ( ISDN integrated ) works perfectly, this new 1760 ( with added WIC-1B-S/T ) doesn't make a call, except for the case above.

Re: Wic 1B S/T Troubleshooting

Hello Francesco,

there is actually no difference between the configuration for the ISDN on the 1603, and the configuration of the WIC-1B-S/T. I wonder if the problem might be the NT1 Plus...is this the one you have ?

http://www.aethra.it/italia/prodselect.asp?IDProd=18&M=190

Can you post the output of 'show version' on your 1760 router ? Maybe there is a bug in the IOS version you are running. And can you also post the output of 'show isdn status' ?

Re: Wic 1B S/T Troubleshooting

Hello,

my NT1 Plus is from Telecom Italia, functionally the same outlined in your url...

Sure, the problem is NT1 Plus, but it works if i connect a Router 1603, it stops working if i connect a Router 1760 with WIC-1B-S/T: not quite easy to make it understand to line provider, you know...

Anyway, I'm posting the output of the two commands, as you requested,

Re: Wic 1B S/T Troubleshooting

Buon giorno,

as it happens, somebody else just posted here and appears to have almost exactly the same problem:

http://forums.cisco.com/eforum/servlet/NetProf?page=netprof&forum=Network%20Infrastructure&topic=Remote%20Access&CommCmd=MB%3Fcmd%3Ddisplay_location%26location%3D.1dd9f107

Trying to analyze this: the NT1 only establishes a link when an analog device establishes a connection. Where is the NT1 connecting to, that is, do you have an internal PBX ?

Re: Wic 1B S/T Troubleshooting

Hi

Have you tried physicall checking whether you are really getting the Voltage (in) on the cable which is getting connected to ur isdn port ?

i dont think you have live volt in that coz both L1 and L2 layers arent activated at all...

Re: Wic 1B S/T Troubleshooting

Hello Francesco,

can you try and configure the following on your BRI interface:

isdn tei-negotiation powerup

and reboot the router, then check if there is at least physical connectivity, with the ´show isdn status´ command ?

Regards,

GP

Re: Wic 1B S/T Troubleshooting

Hi Georg,

i've previously tried this command ( also configuring static tei ), the command show isdn status displays the same information as above ( with the same output ).

Francesco

Re: Wic 1B S/T Troubleshooting

No, i haven't tested the voltage in the cable but, connecting a different router ( 1603 ) with ISDN integrated, it works perfectly. Receveing calls from the remote host, it works perfectly. It doesn't make sense, till today.

Thanks

FA

PS The same with another 1760 and Wic-1B-S/T added. It stops working ( other things unchanged, only the router ).
