When using 2 static routes to the same destination over 2 different interface eg 1 - primary and 1 for backup.
Both routes have a default metric. Meaning that there is Static Load balancing.
Does Load balancing mean that traffic will be halved or distributed in some manner over eg 50 % over link 1 and 50% over the other. Or Does load balancing mean that traffic will be duplicated on both interfaces ?
What happens if one route goes down or the path is interrupted. Does network traffic switch to the the other route?
Does the router have some way of monitoring the traffic to destination eg tables etc...
Please Clarify.

By default, traffic will be load-balanced per destination.
For instance, you have a server in location A and a workstation in location B. The workstation is uploading a file to the server, it will use one of the 2 connections for this flow. If the workstation decides to connect to another server in location A, it may use the second connection for that flow.
You can check this behavior with show ip cef.
