I just want to know if say I do a static route for a particular subnet say 167.x.x.0 255.255.255.240 192.x.x.1 does this mean that I dont need anymore to do a static route for individual hosts? say 167.x.x.3 255.255.255.255 192.x.x.1? I am confused, pls. help

Yes, if you have a static route entry on your router for the network then you do not need host entries that fall within that subnet range.

Hi,
IP 167.X.X.0 Mask 255.255.255.240
This include following range of IPs :-
167.X.X.0 Subnet to 167.X.X.15 BROADCAST
167.X.X.1 FIRST IP --- 167.X.X.14 LAST IP
So your static route of 167.X.X.0 255.255.255.240 192.X.X.1 include 167.X.X.3. No need to define one more route for the specific host if you already have route for the subnet.

here in the static roue you are seting the nexthop 192.x.x.1 for the perticular network block... so what ever the ip address belong to that network will automatically pointed to the same next hop...
for example
ip route 192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.2.1
here you are pointing ip address form 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.254 to next hop 192.168.2.1
