using public IP

Hi,

We have a bunch of IP addresses, assigned to us from our ISP. There subnet is different from the subnet of the router's internet interface.

We have used NAT so far but now we would like to assign some of these IP directly to a couple of server one of them is VPN server. We have a Cisco 2610 router with an ethernet port free. So I was thinking to configure this port with a public IP and then routing should work ok for the public network.

Is this the way it should be done ?

Hi there

Assigning a public ip directly to a server is not recommended at all!

Since you already have NAT running on your network, what you can try is to make a static NAT entry in your natpool pointing to the internal address of the server. Thus data from all ports coming in to that specific ip would be matched to the respective ports on the server directly.
