VTP question Can I put port of other switchs into vlan form VTP Server

I have five switch and each switchs fas0/4 is connected to fas0/5 of other switch

i.e SW1-Sw2-sw3-sw4-sw5. SW1 is my VTP server. I ahve created Vlan 3 & 4 on SW1.

now the query is Can i put SW5 port fas0/8 into vlan 4 from SW1. OR is there only one method get access of SW5 and put the port into Vlan 4.

You need to manually assign Vlan membership on switchports at each switch.

A VTP server does not assign switchport Vlan membership on any VTP client switches.

A VTP server shares the Vlan database with others switches in the same VTP domain that are running in either server or client mode.

In addition, you must make sure the inter-switch links are trunk, else no VTP will be exchanged.

Port on SW5 can be put in Vlan 4

provided

SW2 to SW5

- are in VTP server/client mode for automatic vlan database synchronization

OR

- are in Transparent mode (need to create vlan 4 manually in all switches)

- Connected by trunk allowing atleast vlan4

What's the command to put the port into vlan 4 from SW1..without getting access to sw4.

Hi,

A Switch port can be dynamically allocated to a vlan based on the MAC address of the device connected to a port. So you need not access SW4 for vlan assignment.

Dynamic VLAN configuration need couple of commands and below link should help you in configuration:
