1142n Controller Code

Just received some 1142n APs. We have a 4402 controller as well as a WiSM. All controllers are running 4.2.176 code. From what I know I need to run 5.2 code to support the 1142n. There is currently two versions of 5.2 code posted. 5.2.157 and 5.2.178. I was thinking of keeping the WiSM at 4.2 code and just upgrading the 4402 controller to 5.2 code to support the 1142n APs. The 4402 controller is in a mobility group with the WiSM. If I'm running mismatched code version is it best to break the 4402 to its own mobilty group or just make sure the APs on the 5.2 4402 never have the WiSM as a secondary home.

I was under the impression that 5.X code wasn't stable enough to run production. With the 1142s one has little choice. Is 5.2 stable enough to run on all controllers or should I wait on that for the WiSM.

Re: 1142n Controller Code

It should be fine. If you have any problems, you can always rollback your FW.

Make sure you are also running the true bootstrap (4.2.112.0) plus the Emergency Release version (5.2.157.0 ER).

The difficulty about your case is when you run the new codes on one WLC in order to support the 1140 AP, what would happen if this controller fails? The AP would find the next controller and unfortunately this is running an un-identified code so the 1140 would probably go ... nuts?
