5508 WLC - need MIB/OIDs for CPU utilization, other things

Hi;

We are finally installing 5508 controllers at multiple sites.  (Yaaaay) We have an existing SNMP mangement system (Zenoss) that will work fine with these 5508's if I can figure out which OIDs report things like CPU utilization, free mem, temp, number of clients etc.  We already have modeler plugins that list the number of APs managed and will also show the wired interface  stats.

Attached are two files with the resutls of snmpwalk. One has the raw OIDs, the other has the OIDs with the symbolic prefixes.  Please take a moment to look at those files.

Most of that I'm looking for seems to be missing. For example, in other Cisco forum posts, it was mentioned that CPU utilization was available via this OID:

agentCurrentCPUUtilization ......OID: 1.3.6.1.4.1.14179.1.1.5.1

http://tools.cisco.com/Support/SNMP/do/BrowseOID.do?local=en&translate=Translate&objectInput=1.3.6.1.4.1.14179.1.1.5.1

and, Free Mem was available here:

agentFreeMemory      free RAM of in Kbytes ....OID: 1.3.6.1.4.1.14179.1.1.5.3

Problem is, none of those OIDs are returned when I walk the 5508. For example:

[ZenStatus]$ snmpwalk -Ofn -v2c -c M31eRt4 10.254.248.3 | grep -F "1.3.6.1.4.1.14179"

[ZenStatus]$

(nothing even close to the agentCurrentCPUUtilization OID is  found)

We are currently running  7.0.235.0 .

I'm pretty baffled at this point.  I've spent hours poring over the output of the walks and can't find any of the OIDs that are mentioned on the 'net as having the info I'm looking for.

Thanks,

Steve

Re: 5508 WLC - need MIB/OIDs for CPU utilization, other things

(Note: I just noticed that I failed to attached the file with the raw numeric OIDs in my original post.  I have attached it here)

Thanks Saravanan, but I've tried all the obvious stuff. There are plenty of MIBs listed by Cisco that contain OIDs for various things, but the bottom line is this: Our 5508's are only making available those OIDs that I listed in the two files in the original message. The existence of various OIDs on the Cisco site that are in various MIBs don't do me any good if the 5508, when walked, does not respond with them. So, I need to know one of two things:

* in the OIDs that I see when I walk it now, are any of those CPU, Free Mem, concurrent Clients or other great stuff?

* If not, then how do I modify the 5508 (NOT the management console - it just blindly walks the 5508) so that the 5508 DOES output the info we need?

FYI:  From the link you sent,

ObjectcseSysCPUUtilization
OID1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.305.1.1.1

snmpwalk -Ofn -v2c -c M31eRt4 10.254.248.3 | grep -F "1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9"   resulted in no hits. (This can also be verified by opening the attached

5508-snmpwalk-numeric.txt file and searching for that OID)

Thanks,

Steve

Steve, did you make any

Steve, did you make any progress on SNMP OIDs with WLCs?

I am having similar situation where walk does not respond to MIBs. Case with TAC is not going anywhere.

http://tools.cisco.com/Support/SNMP/do/BrowseOID.do?local=en&translate=Translate&objectInput=ciscoLwappRogueMIB#oidContent

MIB: CISCO-LWAPP-ROGUE-MIB

ciscoLwappRogueMIB - 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.610

Thanks!

5508 WLC - need MIB/OIDs for CPU utilization, other things

I can also see something related to CPU:

ciscoLwappSysMIBObjects

1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.618.1

which I don't think work with you snmpwalk as well, right?

I am not sure why this is happening, but have you tried to change the SNMP version and test? I remember ther was once some closer issue was related to SNMP versoin. not sure though.

Thanks.

The MIBs should be fine , we need to run debug snmp all on the WLC while trying to pull the value of the OIDs mentioned above.

5508 WLC - need MIB/OIDs for CPU utilization, other things

Thanks everyone, I think we are getting closer. Debug was a good tip!

When I did the SNMP walks with debug on, in the first instance, (cseSysCPUUtilization 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.305.1.1.1 ), it seemed to recognize what it was looking for, but never returned a value. The 'Searching for next instance" never returns anything useful.

This makes me think that perhaps something is wrong with the 5508 ... we are trying to upgrade it to 7.2, but let's not give up on 7.0 yet, please.

In the second instance, (ciscoLwappSysMIBObjects 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.618.1), it finds plenty of OIDs. Perhaps some of them are what we need, the problem is figuring out which numeric OID value corresponds to things like CPU, client count, free mem.

Details:

Tried the following walk:

[zenoss]$ snmpwalk -On -v2c -c asdasasd 1.2.3.4 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.305.1.1.1

.1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.305.1.1.1 = No Such Instance currently exists at this OID

It never gets past this point.

I hate having to open a TAC case.  If I do, is there any way to have the TAC engineer use this thread for all interaction on the case? I would save me a lot of copying and pasting.

Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Steve

5508 WLC - need MIB/OIDs for CPU utilization, other things

Hi,

.1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.618.1.4.1.0 – CPUs utilization with code 7.0 – attention each individual CPU is reported – we have 8 on the 5508.
