broadcast traffic with LCD Projector

Hi all,

Please help...

how to enable broadcast traffic on WiSM on same VLAN/Interface...

i have a LCD Projector that when the client do automatic search.. the client will broadcast to 255.255.255.255 and somehow the the LCD Projetor do not respond for the broadcast traffic by the client...

I already configured the WiSM to forward broadcast traffic...

i already tested it using cisco autonomous AP and have the LCD Projector and Laptop joining the same ssid and successfully do the automatic search...

anyone can help...??

regards

Robin

Re: broadcast traffic with LCD Projector

Just noticed that multicast is enabled... try to disable that temporarily and see if your clients can communicate with the projector.

Re: broadcast traffic with LCD Projector

So the clients and the projectors are on the same subnet correct?  Make sure that in the WLC SSID setting, that P2P Blocking Action is not enabled.  If you place a wired user on the same subnet as the wireless clients are on, does it work?

Re: broadcast traffic with LCD Projector

yes, the client (laptop) and LCD Projector are on the same subnet (VLAN 334)...

i tried my laptop on wired and have the same vlan 334 with lcd projector on the wireless side too.. but when the client start to do automatic search for the lcd and broadcast to 255.255.255.255 with IP Bagos.... the broadcast didn't across to the wireless side ( i turn on wireshark on the same ssid with lcd projector)..

P2P blocking already disabled from the first time...

my WiSM firmware is 6.0.196.0

AIR-AP1252AG-A-K9

and i tried using cisco autonomous AP with the lcdp projector and the laptop... it works.... the lcd projector replied the broadcast message... and the laptop find the lcd with automatic search...

is it true that WLC will automatically droped any broadcast message on the wireless air ...

Re: broadcast traffic with LCD Projector

Check to see if ethernet broadcast is enabled: show network summary.

To enable ethernet broadcast: config network broadcast enable

Re: broadcast traffic with LCD Projector

I would open a TAC case or look up the unresolved caveats for the code you are running.  I have some clients running projectors (wireless though) and clients broadcast to communicate with the projector on the same subnet with no issues.  Only if the clients are on a different subnet is where they have issues.  You already have broadcasting enabled but you don't see any broadcast traffic when you are running wireshark, so something isn't working right.

Re: broadcast traffic with LCD Projector

multicast is disabled... and i try to do automatic search.. while other laptop joining the same ssid with client laptop and lcd projector...

still have no broadcast message that coming to my laptop that has wireshark on it....

on the client side i already make sure that the client software of the lcd projector sending an IP Bogus broadcast message...

still no luck....

on code 6.0.196.0 i noticed that Symmetric Mobility Tunneling mode  is enabled.. i don't know.. do you think it has something to do with this....

there are no option for disabling the symmetric mobility tunneling in this code...

Re: broadcast traffic with LCD Projector

Looks like it was enabled from our previous post:

Ethernet Multicast Mode..................... Enable   Mode: Mcast  239.168.1.1
Ethernet Broadcast Mode..................... Enable
AP Multicast Mode........................... Multicast   Address : 239.168.1.1
IGMP snooping............................... Enabled

I don't think symetric mobility tunneling is causing the issue since I have that running on my clients WLC's.

Re: broadcast traffic with LCD Projector

hey... i have good news.....

the problem is on the AP Multicast Mode...not on the ethernet multicast mode...

Secure Web Mode Cipher-Option High.......... Disable
Secure Web Mode Cipher-Option SSLv2......... Enable
Secure Shell (ssh).......................... Enable
Telnet...................................... Enable
Ethernet Multicast Mode..................... Enable   Mode: Ucast
Ethernet Broadcast Mode..................... Enable
AP Multicast Mode........................... Unicast
IGMP snooping............................... Enabled
IGMP timeout................................ 60 seconds
User Idle Timeout........................... 300 seconds
ARP Idle Timeout............................ 300 seconds
Cisco AP Default Master..................... Disable
AP Join Priority............................ Disable
Mgmt Via Wireless Interface................. Enable
Mgmt Via Dynamic Interface.................. Disable
Bridge MAC filter Config.................... Disable
Bridge Security Mode........................ EAP
Mesh Full Sector DFS........................ Enable

--More-- or (q)uit

AP Fallback ................................ Enable
Web Auth Redirect Ports .................... 80
Fast SSID Change ........................... Enabled
802.3 Bridging ............................. Disable
IP/MAC Addr Binding Check .................. Enabled

does it mean that the wlc will receiving multicast traffic from the ethernet and will forward the multicast traffic on the wireless side in unicast mode....

Re: broadcast traffic with LCD Projector

Yes you are right... since you  have unicast enabled, the wlc will forward messages in unicast to each client.
