Connectivity issues with Cisco controllers and PMF enabled Moto X (Gen 2)

New Moto X (Gen 2)  has PMF (802.11 w)  enabled by default . This is creating connectivity  problem with many Cisco controllers which runs old firmware .

On sniffer analysis , we observed that cisco AP is sending  wrong key descriptor version value (3 here) in EAPOL Key1/4 and so the device is not responding with Key2/4.

From our ( I am from Motorola Mobility) follow up with Cisco some time back , we got confirmation that issue can be similar to  CSCua29504.

Can you please advice your customers to upgrade their controller firmware to avoid issues with PMF enabled client devices ?  is  a link to a post where user confirmed that a firmware upgrade resolved the connectivity issue seen with his work WiFi.

We were seeing issues with APs,

  Cisco Aironet 1260 Series
  Aironet 1130AG series

and mostly from enterprise users.

Can you please confirm this was a know issue with these products and a firmware upgrade will resolve this issue ?

Thanks for the quick response

Thanks for the quick response , Rasika.

We got another issue reported for  Cisco 4402 controller with firmware Can you please let us know is there any fix available for this product .

If you have the list of your products which had an issue with PMF , it would be really helpful if you can post that list and  firmware version which has the fix , here.

Apart from updating the firmware , is there any workaround available at client side to avoid this issue ?

My Moto X (XT1095) 2014 Pure

My Moto X (XT1095) 2014 Pure is happily connected to our WiFi.

Below is what was done...

Looked up our 5508 Wireless Lan Controller on the Cisco.COM site and downloaded 7.6 software.

Logged in to our WLC web interface, selected " COMMANDS > Download Files " .

Used my OpenTFTP install allow WLC to download and install the 7.6 update.

Sat back and watch the installed happen.  :)
