Re: Converting AP 1242 from Standalone to LWAP mode

Hi Mirza,

You have two options.

One, convert to Autonomous and re-convert back to LWAPP.

Two, the command is "disabled" because you are already running the LWAPP image. Your LWAP contains two IOS images: One has the prefix of "rcv" and the other is the image downloaded from the WLC. Delete this image, let the AP boot the "rcv" image and run the command again.

Re: Converting AP 1242 from Standalone to LWAP mode

Hello Rob,

Thank you for the above notes , they been very useful so fat.

Is this the format for AP information file which will be provided in Upgrade tool ?

ap-ip-192.168.200.2,telnet-cisco,telnet-cisco-Cisco,enable-Cisco

or

192.168.200.2,cisco,Cisco,cisco

Also how to upgrade 2100 5.1.185 version software as i see under WLAN option after creating SSID its not showing all its L2,L3 security features.

Is it some bug in this OS.

Can i use 2100WLC for LWAP 1242 series?

Thanks,

Mirza.

Re: Converting AP 1242 from Standalone to LWAP mode

2100 does support 1240 series as per the release notes:

Re: Converting AP 1242 from Standalone to LWAP mode

Hello All,

I am still stuck-up at Upgrading tool ..as the screen says validating user input fields.

I have attached the below data in text file.

ap-192.168.200.2,telnet-cisco,telnet-cisco-Cisco,enable-Cisco

I have assigned 192.168.200.1 for PC and 192.168.200.2 for AP.

Can anybody let me is it correct..why it is not going beyond

Thanks,

Finally i am able to convert AP from Standalone to Lwap mode using Upgrade tool, but after connecting it to switch and assigning under vlan 249 on a fast ethernet port

it joins the Controller and disjoin the

Controller .

Re: Converting AP 1242 from Standalone to LWAP mode

Hi Mirza,

Console into the AP in question and go into enable mode.

I am presuming that the AP has a valid IP address and can ping the Management IP address of the WLC. Enter the command lwapp ap controller ip address .

Hope this helps.

Re: Converting AP 1242 from Standalone to LWAP mode

Hi Mizra,

The Join process is failing because you are not reeving the join response from the virtual interface on your controller. I ran into the same problem sometime back and it was caused by a firewall which was in between the wireless controller and the AP.

Please refer to the below doc for other possible causes

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6366/products_tech_note09186a00808f8599.shtml

Re: Converting AP 1242 from Standalone to LWAP mode

Hello Janesha,

Surprisingly there is not vlan between WLC and AP.

Router is assigned a scope of 10.120.249.0

with a sub interface gi 0/0.249 created with ip address 10.120.249.1.

on switch is vlan249 is assigned to the AP.

Hence no firewall...

But here my AP joins the WLC as u see in the logs and then reboots and relaod the image and then disjoins from the image.

Thanks,

Mirza.

Re: Converting AP 1242 from Standalone to LWAP mode

Let me clarify few things.Since you have mentioned about a scope I believe you are talking about a DHCP scope. If you are using DHCP can you confirm whether option 43 is configured under DHCP pool on the router?

Community Member

Re: Converting AP 1242 from Standalone to LWAP mode

Hello,

yes option 43 is configured on Router .

ip dhcp pool DGFC_AP

network 10.120.249.0 255.255.255.0

default-router 10.120.249.1 255.255.255.0

option 43 ip 10.120.249.7

one existing Ap which is already in Lwap Image has joined the controller with out any issue.

while converting my AP standalone to LWAP i have configured fa 0 interface ip add as 192.168.200.2 which i am not able to remove ..as my AP joins the controller and then disjoins then relaod and load IOS and then join, disjoin.

I am using the the below IOS for AP1242 -

"c1240-rcvk9w8-tar.123-11JX1"while upgrading using Upgrade tool.

Is this IOS having any issue.

I have tested this AP on a other live production another WLC 2100 ..its behaving the same.

Pleas see the logs below -

I was suspecting this 2100WLC IOS which is Software Version 5.0.148.0 , but now since i chked this on 2100 WLC Software Version 4.1.171.0 ..the AP behaving the same

Now i feel can isolate any issue with WLC ...

Can any issue with IOS am using for conversion AP from standalone to Lwap?

Please suggest

Re: Converting AP 1242 from Standalone to LWAP mode

Hi Mirza,

You are confusing me. What is your issue? Is it your AP not joining the controller or you need assistance in upgrading to the new firmware?

Thanks for all your support so far.

Re: Converting AP 1242 from Standalone to LWAP mode

Hello GS,

My AP was just able to join Controller once and showed it is able to join the controller and have received the IP from router and the same had reflected in Controller also.

But after reconnecting to the same fast Ethernet of switch ..again it is giving the same above posted errors.

Note:- When i am connecting a new pre-configured Lwap AP to the same Interface of switch it is joining the controller with out any issue which isloate any issue from network side.

I am having a doubt whether the AP which i have converted from standalone mode to LWAP is purchased with that license?

How do i get more information on this.

For option 43 in router i even tried giving the below command

option 43 hex f104.0a78.Ff97 in place of option 43 ip 10.120.249.7.

Appreciate all your support.

Thanks,

Mirza.

Hello Leo,

I tried the your command

lwapp ap controller ip address , but it was showing command restricted.

I tried all the possible commands with Lwap ap ip add ....all related commands.

Can you suggest any other?

Thanks,
