How are you surveying with a 3602i??

My rig was pretty simple, an AP and a Terrawave battery on an IV pole and that's it.  However, seeing as how the 3602i doe snot have an autonmous image currently, or every? That's not going to work.  My other only option was to setup a UPS with a 110 outlet and a power brick.  But, that's make the rig a little more cumbersom and with out an autonmous image, i'm not sure how to do a perf test either.  Ideas?

How are you surveying with a 3602i??

I had seen where the 1260 worked on the 3500's, but was under the impression (saw somewhere) that it would not work on the 36's due to a completely different platform?

It'll work.

Yes and no.

You are right, the 3600 does not have an autonomous IOS but some people have loaded the autonomous IOS for the 1260.

I haven't tried this yet, does the mode button work on the 3602s?  I was about to do this and in doing so, the mode button doesn't do anything.. AP boots as normal.  I can do the ESC at image load and get to rommon, but am a little concerned now that if i hose it with this image I can't recover easily.

Huh.  Pulled another one out of the box and seems to be working. Looks like I have an AP with a broke Mode Button. Interesting.  Thanks for your help!

Thanks for the ratings.

NOTE:  If you want to run autonomous on the 3500 I believe you can load either the autonomous image of the 1140 or the 1260 using the Mode button.

Update, tried the 1260 ios and couldn't get the 3602 to boot with it.

Re: How are you surveying with a 3602i??

You can't use a 1262 code on the 3600's. You will have to wait until Cisco releases the autonomous code for the 3602's which will be just for survey purposes.

My sincerest apologies for the wrong advice, Raun.

Not a problem!  It was worth a shot and I'm pretty ticked off about the lack of an ios available for this model anyways.  I'm told my SE's from Cisco to use HREAP/FlexConnect, but that's kind of a pain.  Owellllll

Re: How are you surveying with a 3602i??

That will be a pain, since h-reap/flexconnect has the ability to change your channels and power. That way was always a pain, but the only other way is to use a 2504 and drag that along.

Hi Scott -

Can you elaborate on "since h-reap/flexconnect has the ability to change your channels and power".  Does that mean if I set the AP to flexconnect mode that the AP will dynamically select power and channels, and may possibly do so while I'm surveying?  I'm configuring a 3602e for site surveys, and I'm setting it up as FlexConnect.

Thanks!

Just curious, why would you need to do a survey with a 3602i? An 1142 setup autonomous will provide 802.11a/g/n.  Sorry to hijack but I was just wondering if I was missing something with my surveys.  Thanks in advance for your comments.  //art

Art,

Its always better to survey with the access points you will be implementing.  The newer AP's have different antennas pattern and coverage will be different.

I agree and it seemed to be more the case with the older units but I thought the newer ap's were the same.

I was wrong.  I did a quick lookup and found:

3602i

• 2.4 GHz, Gain 2 dBi, internal omni, horizontal beamwidth 360°

• 5 GHz, Gain 5 dBi, internal omni, horizontal beamwidth 360°

1142

• 2.4 GHz, Gain 4.0 dBi, horizontal beamwidth 360°

• 5 GHz, Gain 3 dBi, horizontal beamwidth 360°

Thanks again //art

Cisco always tries to improve the antenna pattern and performance of each model AP they make available.  I too was asking the same question, but when you actually test and get some sort of baseline, you can see improvements with the newer models.

Re: How are you surveying with a 3602i??

The other big difference is that the 3600 TX's at 200mW, the 3500 only at 100mW
