Ipad wireless provisioning internet connectivity check.
I'm in the process of developing a POC 802.1x connectivity on our wireless network for ipad. I've using an a seperate SSID which redirects to a captive portal for user authentication prior to allowing download of a certificate to the ipad. The SSID is isolated and only permits access to our captive portal provisioning server and no internet access.
When an ipad connects to the SSID the controller shows it has authenticated and recieved an IP address but the ipad is still showing it connecting to the SSID even though it is pingable. Does the ipad performance a DNS lookup or similar to check if its able to connect to the internet which would be failing to complete on this SSID?
Re: Ipad wireless provisioning internet connectivity check.
The iPhone and iPad does do a DNS lookup and it it does resolve, the iDevice doesn't do anything. If the iDevice fails o do a lookup, then the device opens up that captive portal page. If you want to disable that, you have to run 18.104.22.168 and the command is as follows
Transferring Crash file from standby:
Login to the Active WLC in HA.
(Cisco Controller) >transfer upload datatype crash
(Cisco Controller) >transfer upload filename <Desired filename>

This is the start of a display filter cross reference between Wireshark and OmniPeek.
The 1st installment is a table of advanced filters. More filters will be added as time allows.
It is a living doc, so check back for changes every so often

I have created a Powershell script to automatically add a Wireless Guest User on Cisco WLCs. (tested on 2500 Series)
The script should be completely self explanatory.
