Managing a 5760

I jumped on the bandwagon and purchased a 5760 WLC this summer.  I have all my APs running, but am having a hard figuring out how to make adjustments to my APs.  I must say upfront that my knowledge of wireless management isn't the greatest.  I know how to do a few things on the 7.X WLCs, but I am by no means a guru.

I have followed the 5760 configuration guide, but I have been unable to figure out how to even turn off the 2.4GHZ radio.  I first issue a wireless rf-name, then I issue ap dot11 24ghz shutdown.  However, I can still see clients connecting when I do a show ap auto-rf dot11 24ghz command.  What exactly am I missing?  Then I get a strange error when I attempt to disable data rates on a global scale:

WLC(config)# ap dot11 5ghz shutdown

WLC(config)# ap dot11 5ghz rate RATE_1M disable

% switch-1:wcm:Invalid rate.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.  I feel a little lost here.

Re: Managing a 5760

Hi.. The cli commands can get tricky if you are not familiar with them.

Have you tried it from the web interface?

Managing a 5760

Newton1#(config) no ap dot11 5 ghz shut

Data Rates: default values displayed below it is likely you will need to change several of these:

Newton1#(config) ap dot11 5 ghz rate mandatory/supported/disabled:

Switch(config)#ap dot11 2 rate ?

As an example: disabling 1,2,5.5,11 Mbps, enabling 24,54 Mbps as mandatory, all else supported. 5 GHz will have 12, 24 Mbps as mandatory, all else supported:

Newton1#(config) ap dot11 2 shut

Newton1#(config) ap dot11 2 rate RATE_11M disable

Newton1#(config) ap dot11 2 rate RATE_1M disable

Newton1#(config) ap dot11 2 rate RATE_2M disable

Newton1#(config) ap dot11 2 rate RATE_5_5M disable

% Unable to modify rate, Since this is the last available BSS rate.

The above warning is issued since there are no other ‘mandatory’ rates available you must have at least 1 mandatory rate.

Newton1#(config) ap dot11 2 rate RATE_24M mandatory

Newton1#(config) ap dot11 2 rate RATE_5_5M disable

Newton1#(config) ap dot11 2 rate RATE_54M mandatory

Newton1#(config) no ap dot11 2 shut

Newton1#(config) ap dot11 5 shut

Newton1#(config) ap dot11 5 rate RATE_6M supported

Newton1#(config) no ap dot11 5 shut

Legacy ClientLink is disabled by default

Newton1#(config) ap dot11 5 ghz beamforming use the no form to disable

The remaining settings for Network are displayed here for reference
