Managing WLC - AIR-WLC4402-12-K9

I am trying to discover my WLC's via snmp (v1 or 2), but am having trouble doing it. I had configured the snmp community strings (using CLI and https) and did not succeed both ways. I even added the IP address and mask for the mgmt server but am unable to do this.

I am not using WLSE at present and want to discover the WLC's for inventory and availability. For mgmt. sw, I am using nodeview/ciscoworks/CA unicenter.

any help would be appreciated.

thks

Hi Sunil,

you have to grab the SNMP information from the service port ip not from the management port. This is only for the management of the APs.

Btw. The WLSE is not the correct management station for WLC. This would be done from a WCS.

Best regards,

Frank

Actually, the Service port is only for OOB, incase you cannont reach the WLC by it's management interface. You should be using the Management interface to connect to the controller for http/https, ssh/telnet and SNMP.

Steve

I am using the management interface for https, ssh etc. Was also trying to discover the device and read snmp through this same interface (mgmt), but not having any luck.

If any of you have any urls that can help on this .. would be appreciated. WLC Help is not that great.

Thanks

can you provide a text config, less the AP details?

Steve

Hi

Stephen is completly right. I had wiritten my post in a hurry so i interchanged the prot naming. I apologize for that wrong information.

Which IP address and subnetmask did you bound to the communities?

If you are not sure which one to take use 0.0.0.0 as ip and 0.0.0.0 as subnetmask to enable snmp for all ip addresses.

Best regards,

Frank

Thanks Frank, Steven,

I have got it to work. I had to enable snmp v1 to read. And I used 0.0.0.0 and mask 0.0.0.0 to do it.

One other question, As I have my mgmt stations on diff. subnets, how can I get the WLC to be discovered by all. I do not want to have it accept snmp from all (in other words no 0.0.0.0). But I use the same community string for all mgmt stns. and the WLC does not let me create multiple entries with the same string. Other than having diff. strings, is it possible.

Thanks once again.

Hi Sunil,

i had a look on my WLC and you are right, there is no way to setup the same community string to different subnets.

I guess you should contact a Cisco representative and ask him for a PER (Product Enhancement Request). This may lead into a change of this behaviour.

Best regards,

Frank
