Rogue Switchport Tracking

Hi,

We receive a number of rogue access points alerts and their predicted location. The WLSE has the snmp strings of all the switches in the network but it can never track the rogue points to a switch port, it cant even find Cisco or Linksys AP's. Has anyone got this feature of the WLSE working Correctly.

Regards

Miron

Switch port tracing and suppression is a best-effort approach and is not 100% guaranteed to yield accurate results. Also CatOS software is not supported for switch port tracing.

Hi,

Thanks for your response , but the fact that the

mac address seen on the wireless side hardly ever matches mac on the ethernet side makes the switchport tracker quite frankly rather useless.

We added a rogue cisco 1131 ap to the network on the same switch as a managed device. The fault monitor

correctly identified the rouge device (Although on this occasion didnt know it was a cisco device).

From the following it is obvious that even cisco doesnt follow the format of the radio interface matching closly to the ethernet interface.

0015.2c49.3920 Radio Interface 0

0015.63b0.f0a2 Ethernet Interface

The switchport tracker has only once correctly found the rogue ap (d-Link) device switchport.

Anyways I suppose not everything can be easy:-)

Kind Regards
