Unable to log into PRIME. Database server stopped

From my experience, you need to reboot NCS and then verify if services start.

Thanks,

Unable to log into PRIME. Database server stopped

Thanks Scott for your quick reply.

I just performed the following commands

NCS stop verbose

//waited for complete stop

NCS start verbose

//Waited for restart

now my status is:

PNLNCS01/ncsadmin# ncs status

Health Monitor is running, with an error.

failed to start NCS on startup Health Monitor

Reporting Server is Stopped

Ftp Server is running

Database server is stopped

Tftp Server is running

Matlab Server is running

NMS Server is stopped.

SAM Daemon is not running ...

DA Daemon is not running ...

Syslog Daemon is not running ...

status

More services are down now.

Is there something in which I can do from here?

Thankyou

Re: Unable to log into PRIME. Database server stopped

Reloading NCS does not appear to fix the issue. This suddenly just stopped this morning. I've seen others on this support forum with same issues in version 1.2 but this NCS is version 1.3

Re: Unable to log into PRIME. Database server stopped

This isn't something new. The question is, was this a new install or was it an upgrade to PI 1.3? New installs seem stable when comparing to PI being upgraded.

I have had NCS and PI not come back up and had to do a fresh install.

Re: Unable to log into PRIME. Database server stopped

Wilton,

The one thing I always do in my installs is alway take a snapshot just in case and also export the maps. This way is your snapshot doesn't work for some reason, the export of the map will help because you will most likely have to rebuild the VM.

Re: Unable to log into PRIME. Database server stopped

Thanks for your advice. This was an upgrade from version 1.2 but it has been stable for several months.

I'll update if I can find root cause.

Re: Unable to log into PRIME. Database server stopped

HI,

Did you tried these steps:

NCS stop

NCS cleanup

NCS start

If that doesn't work then try this

NCS stop

NCS DB reinitdb

NCS start

When you do a reinitdb, you will basically start from scratch except you will still have your license. So you will need to add the controller  etc  back.

Re: Unable to log into PRIME. Database server stopped

That the reason... PI 1.2 was garbage... So you basically upgraded the garbage. Not to be mean here, but never upgrade if you can even though there are instructions on how to do an upgrade. We have seen too many of these upgrade fail either during the upgrade or months after like what you are seeing. All the upgraded we do right now is a new install and importing the maps. If a customer requires an upgrade do to data needed or can bring up a new VM, we let them know the downside and they basically agree to that prior to us doing the upgrade. We will upgrade if it's a patch but not a different train. PI 1.3 to PI 1.4 or PI 2.0 would be new installs.

If you search the forum, you will see that PI 1.2 has issues and you will find post repeated to upgrades having issues.

Re: Unable to log into PRIME. Database server stopped

Just to update for reference

Cisco TAC have resolved the issue. Appears Oracle database could not start due to archive logs filling up database. A manual cull of archive logs was needed through the root.

Appears it was similar to this issue.

http://transmitfailure.blogspot.fr/2013/04/cisco-prime-infrastructure-bug-id.html

It was recommended that a regular backup to a remote repository was need on perhaps a weekly basis.

You can configure this in the gui

Administration >  Background Task > Other Background Task > NCS Server Backup.

Thanks guys for your advice and thanks to the Cisco team.

Cheers
