WCS - AP Relocation on Map

When I reposition an AP on a map, I get a message..

Saving these settings might cause the radios to reset if the antenna gain setting on the WCS is different from the setting on the controller.

Is this true? I do not plan on adjusting the antenna settings.. I just need to move the AP to a different Map as I fix some of my drawings.

Thanks,

Phil

WCS - AP Relocation on Map

Phil,

WCS by design changes the antenna gain of an AP if it's different from
the WLC causing a radio restart. In earlier versions of code this pop-up
wasn't displayed. Users were unaware of this & would think why saving
the AP on a map caused a reset. Many would have not even run into this
issue if the gain were the same on both WCS & the WLC. Hence a bug was
filed to notify users before the AP's are saved in the maps. The message
is normal with WCS running 6.x & above.

Please make sure the WCS & the WLC (to which the AP's in floor plan
being saved is joined to) are in-sync with each other. Once they are
in-sync the values should be the same & shouldn't cause any issues. The
pop-up would still be displayed but won't affect/change anything on
the AP's.

Hope this helps.

WCS - AP Relocation on Map

Thanks Ram,

Makes sense. What Gain are they refering to specifically? The one determined by Antenna Type or the Gain as defined by the Power Level setting?

Thanks,

Phil

Sure, Phil.

They are refering to the Antenna gain of the radio interfaces. You can see the gain values from:

Configure --> Access points --> Click on an AP --> Click on any of the radio interfaces (Say 802.11 b/g/n) --> you would notice the gain value under the 'Antenna' section.
