WLC 2112 using 4.1.191.24M-Mesh detects only up to 6 APs supported

Hi Guys,

As what Cisco describe in their release notes 4.1.191.24M, this software is for 2100 Series WLCs, but when my WLC2112 is loaded with version 4.1.191.24M, WLC management tells me that only 6-APs are supported. Is this just a cosmetic error? (please see attached jpg files) Or it will be just the 6 APs are supported instead of 12?

Right now 4x 1510 APs and 1x 1522 AP are managed by 1x 2106 WLC using 4.1.191.24M software. They bought additional 2x 1522APs (total of 7 Mesh APs) to service new location and 2x 2112 WLC for redundancy (N+1). I can't use any other software version because this is the only version that has 1510 and 1522 Mesh APs are both supported. If i'm going to use this version in production area, I would be getting only 3x WLCs x 6AP supported = 18APs instead of 30APs (12+12+6) maximum? Please help.

4.1 does not show in the 2112 supported releases.

My guess is that the 4.1Mesh software is not checking the hardware to see if it supports 6,12 or 25 APs, it's hard-coded to 6 ....

I really don't know why cisco post this 2100 Series instead of specifying it to 2106. If you noticed, in release notes 4.1.192.22M and 4.1.192.35M, it was already specified.

How would I know if 4.1Mesh really supports only 6 APs? Is there any documentation about this?

It's not 4.1 that is only supporting 6 APs. It's the 2106 which supports 6 APs, and you installed a 2106 software image on your 2112, therefore limiting it.

The release notes of 4.1Mesh will be modified in the coming days to say "2106" and not "2100 series" anymore.

If somehow you got tricked into buying a 2112 for mesh and since you have only 4.1/4.2 that you can use beacuse of 1510, I would recommend talking to the Cisco Sales team, they can maybe arrange a swap to a 4402-12 or something but I'm afraid there's nothing else you can do.

Thanks again for fast reply. This is actually the reason why we bought 2x 2112 WLCs for our client and because I was assuming this release notes is correct in the first place. If I already knew it before I would not buy 2112 but instead a 4402-12 WLCs.

And please don't change yet the release notes. I may have to talk with our local Cisco Sales Team and have them check what the release notes look like.

I sent an email to "pfiles@cisco.com" on 03 September to correct some documentations (see https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2039264). Unfortunately, the documentations still have not yet been corrected/updated.
