All APs are powered through power injector. I forgot to tick mark the power option (power injector option) in WLC. I did that but still same messages are coming and users are disconnected for few seconds.

WLC Image : 7.0.116.0

AP image : 12.4(23c)JA2

So please suggest what chages i have to make in WLC to stop these messages.

Re: WLC 5508 users are disconnected intermittently

Hi,

- How many APs do you have?

- How frequently the problem happens?

- What does the logs on your WLC say (show msglog, show traplog)? to they show any interesting logs?

WLC 5508 users are disconnected intermittently

Hi Amjad,

- We have 18 APs connected to WLC

- Problem happens 4 to 5 times in a day

- There is no logs related to disconnected of radio intreface in WLC.

When users are disconnected, Users are in wireless range but we cant able to ping WLC.

WLC 5508 users are disconnected intermittently

Hi Amjad,

I have enabled both networks, 802.11a and 802.11b/g network. WLC is in mixed mode. May this can cause any problem?

Re: WLC 5508 users are disconnected intermittently

well, we can see the interface status flaps between up, down and reset.

I can also see that the CAPWAP state moves to discover which indicates that the AP lost connection to the WLC. do the logs you provided continuous? because if the AP was in Discovery CAPWAP phase there should be more phases to follow (join phase for example).

Because you are using a unified solution I think it is better to concentrate on WLC logs. If this is a problem there should be something tells about it in the logs (msglog and/or traplog).

You can also try using this command it it shows problem with AP join process:

# show ap join stats summary

I would also like to know how is the RF situation around your APs? do you have any noise/interference around? do you have other wireless networks in neighbor?

Does the swith to which APs is connected show any messages in the logs about the AP port?

All your APs in local mode?

Thanks.

Amjad

The logs which i have provided is continous. I didnt see any radio interface related or any harmful messages in WLC.

Distance of Power injector and AP is around 40 to 50 meters.

WLC is rinning in mixed mode means both networks (802.11a and 802.11b/g) are enabled. can this cause any problem??

running both 802.11b/g and 802.11a is not an issue.

But having all your APs having this issue at the same time is something strange.

I would think about interface reset on the AP because it chagnes the channel automatically.

Changing the channel may be due DCA algorithm running on WLC. (wireless-> 802.11b/g/n-> RRM -> DCA).

but having it happening for all APs is something strange.

What is the configuraiton for that one?

Regards,

Amjad

Hi

All APs are in local mode.

WLC 5508 users are disconnected intermittently

ALL of your 1240 are exhibiting this behaviour?

If yes, then try upgrading the firmware to either 7.0.235.0 or 7.2.X.

Re: WLC 5508 users are disconnected intermittently

There's a way to look at the ap event log.

I think from memory it's "show ap eventlog

It has some good indicators as to why the AP might be dropping.

I'll confirm the syntax tomorrow.

WLC 5508 users are disconnected intermittently

Hi All,

We have done the following changes and now it is working fine... No radio resets....

Radio interfaces of APs are resetting with code 62 and this is most likely due to RRM setting the channel. Earlier the RRM-DCA setting was 10 minutes hence channel changed every 10 minutes which now has been configured 24 hours which is maximum.

All APs are working without Radio resets.........

WLC 5508 users are disconnected intermittently

Hello Gaurav,

thanks for sharing your findings, appreciated. I have converted this useful information for community users.

WLC 5508 (7.0.116.0) users are disconnecting intermittently - AP 1242 running 12.4

Thanks Scott for endorsing this solution 5+ :-)
