CiscoSecure ACS Solution Engine displays the "Error: Failed to get NIC configuration: Null (FFFFFFFFF)" error message when an attempt is made to change the IP address

Core issue

This issue occurs due to the presence of Cisco bug ID CSCeh55725 and CSCsd88833.

When an attempt is made to change the IP address of a CiscoSecure ACS Solution Engine, the solution engine can boot with the Error: Failed to get NIC configuration: Null (FFFFFFFFF)error message sent to the console.

At times, the Error: Failed to get NIC configuration: rc = [-1] unknown error is also sent to console while the ip address is changed or configured.

Resolution

In order to resolve this issue, backup the CiscoSecure ACS Solution Engine database configuration and re-image the device with the recovery CD. Then, assign the IP address to the solution engine and restore the database configuration.
