Resolution
PIX Firewall software versions 6.3 and earlier use PIX Device Manager (PDM), while PIX software versions 7.0 and later use the Adaptive Security Device Manager (ASDM) in order to manage it.
Both PDM and ASDM provide a GUI in order to manage and configure the PIX, but ASDM has a lot more functionalities and options than PDM.
ASDM provides security management and monitoring services for the PIX 500 and ASA 5500 Series security appliances through an easy-to-use, web-based management interface.
In order to use ASDM, upgrade the PIX to 7.0 code or later. Install the
ASDM.
