Mail failure

My client has a  PIX 506E with Ver 6.3 running.  Up until 3 days ago all was running.  He deleted 5 lines of code concerning another area of the PIX.  Mail has stopped working.  I have checked the config and there is both a static mapping of an outside address to an inside address and an ACL permiting smtp to flow from the outside address to the correct internal address.  I am unable to see any connection attempt to the mail server. The ACL shows 0 hits.  I get a failure when I try to telnet to the server on port 25.  The users are able to connect to outside internet sites.  I am also able to connect to a  PC onsite using teamviewer.  Any ideas on how to trace this issue and fix it?
