Not able to make connections through the Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) 5520 after changing IP addresses

Core issue

This problem occurs when the access-lists and the translation commands are not appropriately changed after the IP addresses are changed.

Resolution

As a workaround:

  • Make sure that appropriate changes are made in the access-list and translation commands (nat and static) after you make changes to IP addresses in order to allow traffic.

  • Make sure to clear the already existing translation table in the PIX Firewall so that new connections can take place.

  • Issue the clear xlate command in order to clear the translation table.

  • You can also issue the clear local-host and clear arp commands as needed.

For detailed information on these commands, refer to the Cisco Security Appliance Command Reference, Version 7.0.
