The PIX/ASA firewall does not change time based upon the new DST rules

Core issue

The Energy Policy Act of 2005 defines a new start date and end date for Daylight Saving Time (DST). This takes effect after March 1, 2007.

Refer to the Introduction section of U.S. Daylight Saving Time (DST) Changes for 2007 for more information.

The new rule changes the start date from the first Sunday of April to the second Sunday of March. The end date changes from the last Sunday of October to the first Sunday of November.

Refer to these Cisco bug IDs for more information on this issue:

Resolution

For a temporary workaround:

Specify the new start date and end date with the clock summer-time command.

For example, use this command for the Pacific time zone:

Firewall (config)#clock summer-time PDT recurring 2 Sun Mar 2:00 1 Sun Nov 2:00 60

Note:- The clock summer-time command must be set on all devices even when NTP server is configured.

In order to completely resolve this issue on the PIX, upgrade to one of these PIX software versions:

  • 6.3(5.123)

  • 7.0(6.10)

  • 7.1(2.30)

  • 7.2(1.27) and later

In order to completely resolve this issue on the ASA, upgrade to one of these ASA software versions:

  • 7.2(2)

  • 7.2(1.27)

  • 7.1(2.30)

  • 7.0(6.10)
