SNMP over tcp

A question came up recently in our department whether the cisco catalyst 4006 and 6509 switch agents would support SNMP over tcp? The default standard for SNMP is UDP is underlying transport mechanism. Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.

Re: SNMP over tcp

You can't currently do this on either a router or a switch. Not sure if there's anything in the works for it either, can't find anything on it on any roadmap.

Sorry about that.

Re: SNMP over tcp

Thanks for confirming this to me. I always appreciate a quick intelligent response from people like you. I have posted messages here and got solutions. I think snmp over tcp is still in experimental stage. Thanks.

Re: SNMP over tcp

If you a looking for acknowledgements from the receiver us can use snmp "informs" which are supported in most new versions of IOS.
