2651XM Maximum Memory

I have a 2651XM and I have two 128 MB DIMMS in it. However when I perform a show ver I see this:

ROM: System Bootstrap, Version 12.2(8r) [cmong 8r], RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

ROM: C2600 Software (C2600-IS-M), Version 12.3(20), RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc2)

Router uptime is 23 minutes

System returned to ROM by reload

System image file is "flash:c2600-is-mz.123-20.bin"

cisco 2651XM (MPC860P) processor (revision 0x401) with 124928K/6144K bytes of memory.

This indicates I only have 128 MB of usable memory. Even though a sh c2600 indicates that the router has 2 - 128 MB DIMMS installed.

I found this document that indicates I may need to update my bootROM:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/products/hw/routers/ps259/products_qanda_item0900aecd800f71dd.shtml

However, I can't figure out if my current BootROM version is the old one or not. Can someone please help me verify this before I buy the BootROM upgrade?

Thanks!

Re: 2651XM Maximum Memory

Hi Chris

You have the right BootROM version (12.2(8r))in order to support 256 MB DRAM, but please, check this document:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps259/products_field_notice09186a00803acb4c.shtml

It says: Customers deploying 256 megabytes of memory in a 2600XM will notice that the total amount of memory allocated will not add up to 256 megabytes.

Due to limitations on the way memory is addressed, not all of the 256 megabytes of memory is usable by the router. This is unlike other IOS routers, where the memory will be allocated to the heap and used by IOS features.

Hope this helps
