I am ordering cable for the switch trunk lines of our data center.
Is it possible to use CAT6 cable on Cisco switch gigabit ethernet interfaces (RJ45), and does anyone use it in a data center environment?
Would you recommend CAT5e shielded, or CAT6?

We rewired our data center with Cat6 about 10 months ago. If it is done right, you will have a good investment. The cable itself has a better twist to prevent x-talk & such interference. The guidelines for cable certification are pretty strict too, so you are sure to have a good investment if you do the research.

I use unshielded CAT5e and it works just fine.
