Config parameter to allow HSRP across 2948GL3 configured as layer 2 switch

Here is my question scenario:

The server standing on FE3 can ping routers running HSRP on FE1.

The routers can ping each other and the server, but HSRP will not come active across the switch fabric.

HSRP comes active if a crossover cable is substituted for the switch.

Is there a multicast issue?

Re: Config parameter to allow HSRP across 2948GL3 configured as

To fix this, disable IP routing globally for the multicast to pass through the switch/router.

The multicast Hello packet is a routed packet and when bridging is enabled on the L3 it still has

routing enabled by default. Now since IP routing is enabled but there are no interfaces configured

for routing it will receive the multicast packet and then just drop it. So to fix this, either

enable routing and bridging using the IRB command or just disable routing.
