FEX Limit on Nexus 7000 M1 Module

I know that there is a limit of 32 FEX per Nexus 7000 but what is the FEX limit on a single M1 line card?

FEX Limit on Nexus 7000 M1 Module

It follows the system limit, 32.

If you do the math, this comes down to 32 N2232 per N7K which will 32 x 32 10GE ports = 1024 10GE.

There is another limitation concerning number of Vlan Range used toward the FEX

There is a fixed programable table with a max of 450.000 entries and the allocation is done not by active vlan on the trunk but on the range of vlan

Examples:

  • FEX used 2248, 48 ports.

VLAN range 10-3000 = 2990 entries

For 1 FEX, we will use 2990*48 = 143520 entries

We can use only 3 FEX on this card.
