IBM networking - DLSW with two paths to the same ring

I'm looking into a problem for a client and this is the current config for the network under discussion:

...--------------------

..|......Ring 112......|

..|--------------------|

.R1.........................R3

.|...........................|

.|...........................|

WAN#1.................WAN#2

.DLSW..................DLSW

.Ring.....................Ring

.148......................149

.|...........................|

.|...........................|

.R2..........................R4

.|---------...............|----------

.|Ring 5(1)|............| Ring 5(2)|

..---------..............----------

..\......................./

...=>|.................|<=

+----------------------+

+Same Mac on each port.+

+..on a 2-port IBM MVS.+

+....OSA card......... +

+----------------------+

Ring 112 at a remote location, is connected to our main office via a pair of WAN links. Each link has one router at each end. The rings at the local office are both numbered the same (5), with the local mac address on the MVS host being the same on each ring - this is a two port OSA card. The aim of this design is to permit for the rapid recovery of connectivity between ring 112 and the MVS host at the main office.

There is no IP invloved except for the addresses between each pair of routers.

Some PUs are having a difficult time in connecting to the MVS host from ring 112. They just do not get any connections whatsoever, while some are fine. Could the redundant or dual paths with the same ring number locally be causing a problem?

Re: IBM networking - DLSW with two paths to the same ring

Hi Mathew

There are several ways of achieving DLSw redundancy. Have you seen this document ("Configuring DLSw+ Redundancy Between Two Subareas")?:

Please, check it and let us know if it makes sense for your scenario.
