Nexus1000v VEM and VSM communication L2 and l3 mode

Layer 2 mode requires the same vlans (control+packet) to be trunked to every ESX host and end-to-end to the VSM.  This method allows separation of control and packet traffic from host management traffic.

Layer 3 mode uses the vmkernel interface to tunnel traffic to the VSM.  This does not allow separation of control/packet traffic from host management.  However, it does allow the VSM to manage VEMs through Layer 3 devices and firewalls.  This is the main reason for choosing L3 mode.
