Procedures to upgrade Cisco AnyRes VOD (CTM) to 5.1

1, Update the license:

Due to a change in the way Cisco Transcode Manager v5.1 is licensed, the following are recommended steps for existing customers. Note: Please make sure you follow the below actions to get the new license first before any further steps. Beginning the upgrade process before receiving your new license file could result in significant downtime of your system.

1): In the CTM v4.x.x client, click Nodes>Start Server Node support process.

2): Choose a location to save the support file, and click OK.   

3): Request an FTP location be provided for your support file by e-mailing Alternatively, post the file to an FTP server and provide the credentials in your email.

4): Once Cisco has received your support file, you will receive a reply e-mail with a new software license file attached. The entire process could take 1-2 business days to complete.

5): If you are currently using physical HASP keys provided by Cisco to license your system, keep them installed until the update to v5.1 is complete. If you are using HASP software licenses, no action is required.

2, After collected the license files, follow the procedures below to upgrade the CTM

1) Backup the database file before upgrading with the following steps:

Step 1:  Run the command "C:\Program Files\Cisco Systems\Armada Server\Support\Armada\Scripts\backupdb”. Or if it is on a 64-bit system, "C:\Program Files (x86)\Cisco Systems\Armada Server\Support\Armada\Scripts\backupdb". The backupdb.cmd script will perform a full binary backup of the Armada database.

Step 2:  The Backup files are created in the "C:\Program Files\Cisco Systems\Armada Backups" folder, or on 64-bit systems, in the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Cisco Systems\Armada Backups" folder. Verify that a "db-YYYY-MM-DD-HH-MM.dbbin" file is created; this is the database backup file.

2) Transfer the license file you received from Cisco to the server, unzip and extract the .XML file

3) Upgrade the nodes following the procedures listed in the "Transcode Manager Installation Guide” document included in the ReleaseNotes

4) After installing the 5.1 software, follow the steps below to upgrade the license

Step 1: Open the CTM manager, connect to the server, and navigate to Nodes > Update License:


Step 2: Browse to the directory where you saved the license and select the new XML license file. Note that the license will not be active until either the Server Node service has been restarted or the server node itself has been rebooted.

Step 3: The server handles license management in CTM 5.x, and you will need to assign roles to the node in the grid.  Right click on each node, and select Change node services:


You will be able to assign the possible roles for each node.  The server will only actually use the number of nodes for each type that is  specified by the current license.


3, Verification

Check the version: After finishing the upgrade process, please check on the Armada Manager GUI from "Help" to verify if it is version 5.1.
