How to become root user on NSS6100 ?

Hi,

I'm using a NSS6100.

It was before attached to an AD2000.

I recently attached the NSS6100 to our AD2008.

Now, I can see the users/groups from the AD, but all the files/dir presents on NSS6100 lost their user/groups rights.

Even I changed the rights on Shares menu from http interface, I can't move/rename/delete the files.

Is there a way to become root user ?

My NSS6100 user I created is nasusers groups and normally have admin rights, but I can't change any rights via FTP connection.

Thank's.

Regards.

Fredrick,

There isn't a way with these older units for the end user to become the root user. Now with the newer (NSS322,324,326) boxes you have root access and they are unlocked.

How to become root user on NSS6100 ?

Hi Jason,

thank's for you reply.

I found a kind of way to delete the files I want to delete, using a NFS mount and access to NSS6100 from our Linux or SCO box.

I can't change the rights on file, but I can download the files, delete from NSS6100, and upload again to NSS6100, so the rights change to my user.

It's not a simple way!

Regards.

Fredric,

Yep that would work! Yeah since those NSS units have been EoL/EoS since 2010 make sure you have a backup of any data you're storing on the nss or just use the nss as your backup. Making sure you have a minimum of two copies.

Jason,

now the NSS6100 is just using to make some backups of files.

I've replaced the NSS by two others NAS (not in the same place, the second is a netbackup of the first).

So I can make some tests on the NSS.

Regards.

Fred.
