CISCO SRP527W and Telstra Broadband USB Modem - Support Needed

Good Morning All,

I was wondering if someone could give me a little bit of help?

I'm new to Digital Business and my SRP527W router has just arrived.

While I wait for my digital business to be activated i've got a small Eee PC shareing its internet connection through a D-link (piece of garbage) router into my server and out to my LAN.

What I would like to do is install the USB modem into the USB slot of my Cisco Router so i can finally get my data cabinet set up.

The problem is that the Telstra modem when being installed onto a computer, it requires a PIN to activate and then you are required to 'connect' via a little user interface.

Will this be an issue? Will i be able to connect my USB modem to my router while i wait for Digital Business to get going?

Thanks all

Rich

Re: CISCO SRP527W and Telstra Broadband USB Modem - Support Need

Hello Richard, the USB modem is considered a "fail over". In your case, if you don't have an active internet via the internet ports, your USB modem should be considered the primary connection.

However, you are subject to the compatibility of the USB modem. Not all of the USB dongles work. This is updated as of June 2012.

CISCO SRP527W and Telstra Broadband USB Modem - Support Needed

Hi Tom,

Thank you very much for your responce - I have the Sierra 320U Wireless Dongle.

It's provided by Telstra in Australia.

Will it effectively be 'plug and play' or will some installation be required?

Many thanks

Rich

Richard, the Sierra Wireless 320u is on the compatibility list. You should be able to connect it and receive a light. The light will flash if it is unsupported or some kind of failure.

From the Mobile Network section you can verify the connectivity status' model, server name, etc..

You may log the SRP unit and configure the dongle for automatic or manual. The dongle will display on the Mobile Network page.

I don't know if you have any additional instrunction with the dongle, however, if not, then I'd suspect it should work. You should log the SRP and verify the unit is detecting your dongle and displaying all the information which is associated to the dongle.
